Suspense on Rishabh Pant's injury, captain Rohit Sharma gave update after the match

Bengaluru, October 20 (IANS). India had to face defeat against New Zealand in the Bengaluru Test. With this victory, the visiting team also took a 1-0 lead in the series. During this match, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who won the hearts of the fans with his excellent batting, also got injured. Rohit Sharma told after the match how serious his injury is.

The Indian captain said that Rishabh Pant not taking the field in the second innings against New Zealand was a precautionary measure. This decision was taken to prepare Pant for the next match.

Rohit Sharma said, “We all know what difficulties Pant has had to go through in the last few years. He had a serious surgery on his leg and after that Pant has seen a lot. We need to be cautious about his injury. He is a very important link for our team.”

Pant suffered an injury to his right knee while keeping wickets off Jadeja in New Zealand's first innings. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel kept wicket for the remaining part of the match. However, Pant came to bat in the second innings and played an important inning of 99 runs and also made a brilliant partnership of 177 runs with Sarfaraz Khan (150) on Saturday.

“We just have to be mindful of where he is and what his importance is to us,” Rohit said after the eight-wicket defeat in the first Test. “Even when he was batting, he was Wasn't able to run properly. He was just trying to get the ball into the stands. But with a player like him, we just need to be extra careful. He's had several surgeries, including a major one on his knee. Including surgery. Honestly, he's been through a lot in the last year and a half. So, it's just about being extra careful.”

Rohit acknowledged Pant's fast-scoring style and said that he bats as per his wish and no one knows what is going on in his mind. He has given results with his fearless innings, so the team management has allowed him to play his natural game.

The second test match between India and New Zealand will be played in Pune from October 24.
