What to do with the PAN card of a deceased person?

Actually, if a person has died due to some reason, then in such a situation the rule says that you should surrender or deactivate the PAN card of that person. This is being considered appropriate from security point of view.

You can return PAN card as follows:-

  • If someone close to you or someone you know has passed away, then the PAN card of the deceased should be returned.
  • For this you will have to write a letter to the Assessment Officer
  • In the letter you have to state the reason why you are returning the PAN card.
  • With this you will have to attach a copy of the death certificate.
  • After this, the PAN card is returned after all the checks.
