Every year this festival is celebrated on the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, but this time there is some confusion regarding the date of this festival. Let us tell you the exact date of Govardhan Puja this year, its importance and method of worship.

Govardhan Puja is performed on the fourth day of Diwali festival, which is celebrated on the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. It is also known as “Annakoot” because Annakoot is especially offered on this day. This festival also reflects the interrelationship between nature and humans.

Annakoot is specially prepared on this day, which is a mixture of many vegetables. Along with this, 56 offerings are also made to Lord Krishna, which is the main attraction of this puja.

It is believed that earlier the people of Braj used to worship Devraj Indra, but Lord Krishna suggested the worship of Govardhan Parvat. On this, Indra became angry and caused heavy rain, then Lord Krishna protected the people of Braj by lifting the Govardhan mountain on his finger.

Due to the storm and rain caused by Indra, Annakoot was made by collecting vegetables in the houses. Since then, every year on this occasion, Annakoot is offered along with Govardhan Puja.

Govardhan Puja in 2024 will be celebrated on Saturday, November 2. Pratipada Tithi will start at 6:16 PM on 1st November and end at 8:21 PM on 2nd November, hence as per Udaya Tithi the puja of Govardhan Maharaj will take place on 2nd November.

The auspicious time for Govardhan Puja will be from 6:30 pm to 8:45 pm on 2nd November. During this time, 2 hours 45 minutes will be auspicious for worship, when God can be worshipped.

Lord Krishna and Govardhan Maharaj are worshiped after taking bath in Brahma Muhurta. In the courtyard, idols of Govardhan, cow-calf and Brajvasis are made from cow dung and they are decorated with flowers and kheel.

After the puja, Govardhan Maharaj is circumambulated seven times, in which water mixed with milk is used. After this, Aarti is performed by lighting a ghee lamp and chanting praises of Govardhan Maharaj.

After the puja and parikrama, all the family members take blessings from the elders of the house. This festival brings the family together and gives the message of understanding the importance of nature in the society.
