Amelia Kerr out of ODI series against India due to injury

New Delhi, October 26 (IANS). New Zealand women's all-rounder Amelia Kerr has been ruled out of the ODI series against India after suffering a muscle injury in the first match of the series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In this match, Amelia bowled a brilliant spell of 4-42 and she came to bat at number nine. She remained unbeaten on 25, however, chasing the target of 227 runs, New Zealand was all out for 168 runs in 40.4 overs.

New Zealand Cricket said in a statement that Amelia was taken for a scan on the morning after the match played on October 24. Scans revealed a grade one tear in the quadricep, which would take about three weeks to heal.

New Zealand Cricket said that Amelia will return home on October 27 for rehab and the team will not include any other players in its squad due to the final match of the series being played on October 29.

Amelia was included in this team on the basis of her excellent all-round performance in their victorious campaign of T20 World Cup 2024.

Without them, it will be difficult for New Zealand to make a comeback after being 1-0 down against India in the three-match series, if they are successful in making a comeback then they will also get a chance to strengthen their position in the ICC Women's Championship. Where they are in sixth place with 18 points in 19 matches.

To qualify for the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, they will have to finish in the top five in the table by winning their remaining matches in the championship and maintaining their net run rate ahead of other teams.

The second ODI between India and New Zealand will be played on 27 October in Ahmedabad, after which the last match of the series will be played on 29 October.
