New captain will take command of Australia in T20 series against Pakistan

Melbourne, October 28 (IANS). Australia's T20 team will have a new captain in the series against Pakistan next month, as many key players are busy preparing for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with India.

Australia Cricket has elected new leadership for the T20 team due to the clash in the series schedule. In the absence of Mitchell Marsh, either Josh Inglis, Adam Zampa, or Matt Short can be made the captain.

Due to the absence of Australia's Test players, such as Marsh, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Travis Head in this series, the new players of the team have a chance to take over the leadership.

In the team of 13 players selected for the matches to be held in Brisbane, Sydney and Hobart, there are many players who will try to lead the Australian team for the first time. However, the Cricket Australia Board will have to approve the appointment of a temporary captain.

The team will be coached by Andre Borovec, who led a similar team in the T20 series against India last year. Head coach Andrew McDonald and his assistant coaches Michael Di Venuto and Dan Vettori will focus on the ODIs and then the Test matches against Pakistan.

Head of selection George Bailey said: “It is particularly exciting that Xavier, Spencer and Nathan have returned to the national team. This is another opportunity for him to prove himself at the international level.”

The T20 series will also include fast bowlers Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson and Nathan Ellis, who missed the UK tour due to injury. Spencer has recently returned to competitive cricket for South Australia, while Bartlett and Ellis are still recovering from injuries.

Young players such as Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cooper Connolly and Sean Abbott will get a chance in this series, while Matt Short and Aaron Hardie will also be seen in roles. This team will also have leading white ball specialists like Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David and Nathan Ellis, who will guide the team against Pakistan.

This three-match series will start from November 8 and end on November 18, a few days after which the Australian Test team will play against India in Perth.
