A franchise can retain 6 players
Each IPL franchise can retain a maximum of 6 players. Right to match card is also included in this. If a franchise has 4 players then it will have 2 RTM cards. If he holds 1 then there will be 5 and if no one holds then there will be 6 RTM cards.
If a team retains 6 players then they will not have Right to Match card during the auction. A franchise can retain a maximum of 5 capped and 2 uncapped players. These players can be Indian or foreign. All the teams will have Rs 120 crore in their purse.
How much money will it take to retain a player?
1 player- Rs 18 crore
2 players- Rs. 32 crores (1st 18 crores, 2nd 14 crores)
3 players- Rs 43 crore (1st 18 crore, 2nd 14 crore, 3rd 11 crore)
4 players – Rs. 61 crores (18 crores for the fourth player)
5 players- Rs. 75 crores (14 crores for 5th player)
6 Players- (Capped/Uncapped: Rs. 4 crore)

What is RTM card?
The RTM card gives the franchise the right to add the amount of the highest bid placed for a player in the auction after viewing the same. Suppose RCB releases Virat Kohli and he goes into the auction.

During the auction, many franchises bid on him and finally Chennai Super Kings bought Virat Kohli by bidding Rs 20 crore. So RCB can add Virat Kohli by paying Rs 20 crore using RTM card.
