Kathmandu, 07 November (HS). Chhath, the great festival of folk faith, is being celebrated with great pomp in all the districts of Terai Madhesh including Nepal's capital Kathmandu. Regarding the festival of Chhath, the Government of Nepal has announced a public holiday of one day and the governments of Madhesh, Kosi, Lumbini and Far West Pradesh have announced a public holiday of two days.
Regarding this festival of Sun worship, reverence and devotion is being seen not only in Mithila region, but now also in the hill community. More than a dozen ghats have been constructed by the government in Kathmandu, where thousands of devotees are gathering for the festival of Chhath. The ghats at Kamalpokhari, Ranipokhari, Gaurighat, Bagmati, Nakhkhu Khola and Dhobi Khola ghats of the capital have been decorated like a bride for the Chhath festival. The ghats here have been decorated by the Kathmandu Municipal Corporation and the Ministry of Culture. Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah himself took stock of the construction and decoration of all the ghats.
Apart from Kathmandu, Chhath festival is being celebrated grandly in Birgunj, Janakpur, Viratnagar, Bhairahawa, Lumbini, Nepalgunj, Pokhara, Rajviraj, Inarwa, Lahan of Nepal. At all these places, the ghats have been decorated very attractively for the Chhath festival. On the occasion of Chhath festival, the President of Nepal, the Vice President, the Prime Minister, most of the ministers, key officers of security forces, high ranking government officials reach Chhath Ghat and offer milk on this festival of Sun worship. Not only at the evening ghat, but every year the President reaches many ghats to offer the morning arghya the next day.
