New Delhi, November 16 (IANS). Regarding Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said that it has become a threat to global health. He said that this should be dealt with immediately through 'One Health' approach.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said this while addressing the fourth ministerial high-level global conference on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Patel said the 'One Health' approach promotes collaboration across human, animal and plant health as well as the environment and other relevant sectors which is important to fight AMR.
They also outlined practical steps to implement the commitments made in the Declaration on AMR. It also stressed the importance of strengthening surveillance, promoting collaboration, and removing significant barriers to antimicrobial access.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), bacterial AMR was directly responsible for 1.27 million deaths. It caused 4.95 million deaths in 2019.
Patel proposed “a comprehensive approach” to improving antimicrobial resistance (AMR) detection and surveillance, including investing in research with sustainable funding for the fight against AMR.
The Minister of State said the country also supports the creation of an AMR Multi-Partner Trust Fund and the establishment of an independent panel on evidence for action against AMR by next year.
Meanwhile, Patel also proposed strengthening local or regional manufacturing hubs and regulatory mechanisms to ensure equitable access to antimicrobials, diagnostics and vaccines in developing countries, especially low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Patel highlighted the need to build capacity in statistical modeling to calculate baseline rates of AMR-related deaths, to help Member States track progress towards the global goal of reducing AMR-related deaths by 10 percent. Will get it.
“India is committed to supporting global efforts to combat AMR, while ensuring that solutions are sustainable,” Patel said.
