Bangladesh pulls out of Kolkata Film Festival, no participation due to visa issues

कोलकाता फिल्म फेस्टिवल से बाहर हुआ बांग्लादेश, वीजा मुद्दों के कारण नहीं होगी कोई भागीदारी

Kolkata, 21 November (HS). After the Kolkata Book Fair, now Bangladesh will not have any participation in the 30th International Film Festival. No film has been registered from Bangladesh in any category this year. Film Festival President and famous director Gautam Ghosh gave this information on Thursday.

Ghosh said that the situation this time is completely different from previous years. He said, due to visa related problems and recent political developments in Bangladesh, it will take time for the situation to return to normal. This time, due to circumstances, no film from the neighboring country is included in the list.

This development comes after the absence of Bangladeshi publishers at the Kolkata Book Fair for the first time in 28 years. Kolkata Film Festival will start from December 4.

The lack of Bangladeshi films will be felt this time in the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF). Last time at the 28th KIFF, Muhammad Qayyum's film 'Kura Pakhir Shunyay Ura' received the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for Best Film in the International Competition. Additionally, Rezwan Shahrir Sumit's film 'Nonjaler Kabbo' was awarded the Asian Select (Netpac) Award at the 26th KIFF.

Disrupted participation due to Visa and Premier

This time, Bangladeshi film 'Dear Malti' could also not be included in the competition category of the festival, as its Asian premiere is scheduled at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

There are also no special guests or filmmakers from Bangladesh participating in any session or workshop of the film festival. Visa related problems have been cited as the main reason behind this.

Gautam Ghosh expressed hope that the situation would be back to normal by next year's film festival. He said that like previous years, Bangladesh's participation will be seen again next time.

Gautam Ghosh has previously made famous films like 'Padma Nadir Majhi' and 'Monar Manush', which were shot on the borders of India and Bangladesh.
