Syed Mohammed Aziz-un-Nabi (English: Syed Mohammed Aziz-un-Nabi, born- July 2, 1954, West Bengal; died- November 27, 2018, Mumbai, Maharashtra) was one of the famous playback singers of India, who mainly Sung songs in Bengali, Oriya and Hindi films. He started his career as a singer at Ghalib Restaurant in Kolkata. He came to Mumbai in the year 1984. His first Hindi film was 'Amber', which was released in 1984. Mohammad Aziz first sang the song 'Mard Tange Wala…' for Amitabh Bachchan's film 'Mard'. He was called the successor of Mohammed Rafi in the 80's and 90's. Mohammad Aziz sang more than 20 thousand songs in different languages. The famous song of the film 'Khudgarj' Aapke Aa Jane Se…Azeez Sahab Ne Gaya was sung by actor Govinda and actress Neelam. Mohammad Aziz also lent his voice in duets with famous singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Kavita Krishnamurthy.
Mohammad Aziz was born on July 2, 1954 in West Bengal. His real name was 'Syed Mohammad Aziz-un-Navi'. He got his big break in Hindi films when composer Anu Malik gave him the song 'Mard Tange Wala…' in the Amitabh Bachchan starrer film 'Mard'. This song became a big hit. After that he did not have to look back. Mohammad Aziz sang for every successful composer. Famous music composer duo Laxmikant Pyarelal also gave him a chance in many of his films. When Laxmikant Pyarelal's duo declined, Mohammad Aziz's career also declined and then music directors started considering new singers like Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu.(1)
Mohammad Aziz was a big fan of the songs of the very famous singer Mohammad Rafi at his time. They considered him as their guru. Although Mohammad Aziz did not take any training from Rafi, he learned by listening and there came a time in his career when people started calling him the successor of Mohammad Rafi. Although I have taken my formal training from a teacher, I consider Rafi Sahab as my guru. Today I have performed in many languages and all over the world and I give him the credit for my success. Mohammad Aziz said that- There used to be a rumor in the film industry that I was a disciple of Rafi Saheb and was carrying forward his legacy.(1)
Singer Mohammad Aziz, who gave many excellent and superhit songs to Hindi films, died of a heart attack on November 27, 2018. He was 64 years old at that time and had returned to Mumbai after completing a program in Kolkata. His health deteriorated at Mumbai airport itself. Mohammad Aziz had gone to Kolkata for an event on Monday night. When he returned in the afternoon, his health started deteriorating at the airport. He was taken to Nanavati Hospital, where he died.
