Team India is being discriminated against in Australia, Indian batsman's pain expressed before Boxing Day Test
Cricket News Desk. The atmosphere is getting heated before the Boxing Day Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia starting from 26th December. Australian journalist's argument with Virat Kohli at Melbourne Airport, then the misbehavior of local journalists with the media manager of the Indian team at Ravindra Jadeja's press conference, now the matter of discrimination by the Indian team regarding practice pitches has come to light.
Players are unhappy with the quality of the practice pitches provided to the Indian team at the outdoor nets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in preparation for the Boxing Day Test. The Border-Gavaskar series is currently tied at 1-1. The Indian team, which arrived in Melbourne on Friday, has taken part in two practice sessions at the MCG and the four pitches given to the guests to practice on have very little bounce and pace. This is a completely different pitch to the one used in the Boxing Day Test.
According to sources, these practice pitches were specially prepared for practice sessions in the Big Bash League. Despite having a grassy and bouncy practice wicket nearby, he was not ready for the Indian team. There are reports that these pitches will now be made available to the Australian team, which will directly benefit the host team in the match. That is, giving India slow and low bouncy pitches to practice on and wickets similar to those used by the Australian team during Test matches clearly represents discrimination.
Along with this, the poor quality of local net bowlers has also increased the challenges for the Indian team. The team management has made little use of these bowlers throughout the tour, as they have been unable to replicate the pace required for practice sessions.
The wicket is for the white ball.
“I think these wickets are for white-ball cricket,” Indian fast bowler Akashdeep said in a press conference on Sunday. The bounce of the ball was low and it was difficult for the batsman to release the ball. In such a situation, it has become quite challenging for the Indian team to prepare for the Melbourne Test.
India boycotted media match
The scheduled press match between Indian and Australian media has been cancelled. The Indian media had already boycotted the scheduled match following a press conference controversy involving Ravindra Jadeja. This T-20 match was to be played at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on Sunday.
Rohit suffered a knee injury during practice.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma suffered a left knee injury during practice at the MCG on Sunday. At present the injury is not so serious and Rohit will play in the Melbourne Test. Rohit was practicing against spin bowling and injured his left knee while trying to play a full shot. After this the physio ran to Rohit, after which Rohit did not practice and was seen applying ice on his knee.
Team sources have confirmed that Rohit's knee has become swollen due to being hit by the ball during the practice session and the BCCI medical team will keep an eye on his condition. Although Rohit wanted to bat longer, he initially faced bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Akashdeep, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna and then spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Devdutt Padikkal.
But he had to end the season early after being hit by a ball on his knee. Although this injury is not so serious that it can pose any threat to Rohit playing in Melbourne, but it is a matter of concern for both the team and the captain. At the same time, Akashdeep also got injured while batting. Earlier on Saturday, KL Rahul also got injured in his hand.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested on Saturday, returned to the nets and bowled like Rohit, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. Bumrah bowled with full intensity and looked full of enthusiasm while challenging the Indian batsmen. The Indian team will rest on Monday and then practice again on Tuesday.
