Promotion on Jio Cinema with Hotstar

India's white-ball tour against England in January 2025 will be live streamed and broadcast on Star Sports Network and Disney+ Hotstar app. This means that Sports 18 Network and Jio Cinema will not telecast the matches. There will be cross promotion for the England series on this platform owned by JioCinema.

star announced

Star on Monday announced that the eight matches between January 22 and February 12 will be telecast live on Star Sports and Disney+ Hotstar. Although JioCinema and Sports 18 have not been completely ruled out from broadcasting and streaming the matches, the report states that Star will serve as the primary broadcast partner. Star has the rights to broadcast ICC tournaments. In such a situation, the Champions Trophy will be telecasted on Star, but the tournament will reportedly be available on JioCinema and Sports 18 networks.

Last month, Star and Jio formally came together when Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced the merger. A statement on 14 November said the main outcome of the merger is that the combined entity has a stronger hold on cricket broadcasting rights, one of the most valuable assets in the sports media landscape. Disney Star and Viacom together control the media rights to 18 major cricket tournaments, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), International Cricket Council (ICC) events and domestic cricket matches in India. The companies have collectively invested approximately $9.5 billion in acquiring these rights, reflecting their importance in attracting audiences and generating revenue.
