If I were Sanju Samson, Irfan Pathan reviewed the Champions Trophy team, revealed big shortcomings.
Cricket News Desk. Former Indian cricket team all-rounder Irfan Pathan has recently given his opinion on the Indian team selected for the Champions Trophy. The team was selected by chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma on Saturday. Sanju Samson, Mohammed Siraj and Karun Nair were not included in the team in this selection, which became a topic of discussion. Shubhman Gill has been given the responsibility of vice-captain. Irfan Pathan has highlighted many important issues related to team selection.
Irfan is missing fast bowlers
While reviewing the team selection, Irfan Pathan was the first to express concern over the lack of fast bowlers. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh are the only fast bowlers in the team. He said that two fast bowlers selected in the team have recently been injured, so one more fast bowler could have been included in the team. In his post on Instagram, he wrote, 'In view of injury concerns, another fast bowler could have been included.'
Pathan, the hero of the 2007 T20 World Cup final, also said that Shubman Gill is leading the race for captaincy. Regarding Mohammad Siraj, he believes that he was not made a part of the team due to workload management. He further said, 'Shubman Gill is on the right track for leadership, he has had a great year in ODI cricket.' The reason for Siraj's exclusion could be workload management. His statistics are good.
Also reacted on Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson was also considered a contender for the role of wicketkeeper, but he did not get the place. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant were selected as wicketkeepers. After Rohit Sharma's retirement from T20, Sanju got the chance to open and he did wonders. Sanju has played 16 ODI matches for India and his average is 56.66. Pathan wrote- If I were Sanju Samson, I would have been very disappointed. The selectors might have also considered Nitish Kumar Reddy.
