Accused's West Bengal connection revealed
Mumbai, January 21 (IANS). A new revelation has come to light in the recent attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The attacker's West Bengal connection has now come to light. According to Mumbai Police, many important information has been found in the mobile phone recovered from accused Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad.
Police said that the SIM card recovered from the accused was registered in the name of a person named Khukumoni Jahangir Shaikh, who is a resident of Kolkata, West Bengal. Activation of this SIM card took place on 23 March 2024. Mumbai Police confirmed that some important documents have also been recovered from the mobile of the accused, which indicate that he may be a Bangladeshi citizen. Police have intensified the investigation.
Mumbai Police had recently arrested Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, the accused who attacked actor Saif Ali Khan, and presented him in the court, from where the court sent the accused to 5-day custody. The police had formed more than 35 teams to nab the accused.
Police have recovered the clothes and earphones worn at the time of the incident from Shehzad, accused of attacking actor Saif Ali. Police have sent the clothes for forensic examination. When the police called the accused Shahzad from his phone in Bangladesh, he took the number of his parents and they told that the accused is their son. After this, the Bangladesh connection of the accused came to light.
On January 16, Saif was attacked with a knife multiple times in his Bandra apartment. Saif was admitted to Lilavati Hospital after getting injured in this attack. He also had surgery. According to doctors, his condition is stable and he is out of danger. He was also discharged on Tuesday.
