Iga Swiatek continued her impressive run at her first Grand Slam of the year to reach the Australian Open quarter-finals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over eighth seed Emma Navarro on Wednesday.
Second seed Swiatek has not lost a single set in the tournament so far. The Polish player, who is trying to win his first title at Melbourne Park, has lost only 14 matches in the tournament so far. Earlier, Maria Sharapova had achieved the feat of reaching the Australian Open semi-finals by losing less than 15 games in 2013.
The 23-year-old player, who has won the Grand Slam five times so far, said, “I am very happy with my performance so far in the tournament.” It feels great to reach the semi-finals. I will try to move forward.
Poland's Swiatek will face 29-year-old American Madison Keys in the semi-finals. World number 19 Keys registered her 10th consecutive win of the current season by defeating Ukraine's Elina Svitolina 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals.
