According to a story, it is also believed that Panna Dhay had nurtured Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar for years by hiding in this fort. Due to which Akbar's commander Shambhaj Khan gained control over this fort in 1576. Before Akbar, Ahmed Shah I of Gujarat in 1457 and Mohammad Khilji in 1458, 1459 and 1467 had also made several unsuccessful attempts to capture this fort.
