Selecting and using the right products

Choosing the right products for teeth cleaning

Health Corner :- As soon as we wake up in the morning, the first thing we do is go to the washroom and brush our teeth. This is the first step in starting our day. Dental products like toothpaste, toothbrush and mouthwash play an important role in the care of our teeth. Along with grandmother’s remedies, we use dental products available in the market to make our teeth healthy and shiny. But do we know what effect these products have on our teeth? Often we buy these products to get the beautiful teeth like the models seen in TV advertisements.

Today we will discuss about some such products, which we consider beneficial for teeth, but in reality they are not that good.

1. Electric toothbrush

Electric toothbrushes are helpful in cleaning teeth, provided they are used properly. Many people press it too hard, which causes the bristles to bend and render the brush useless. When used properly, it starts working as soon as it touches the teeth. Therefore, it is essential to learn the correct technique from a dental hygienist before using an electric toothbrush.

2. Whitening toothpaste

There are many whitening toothpastes currently available in the market, which claim that their use will make teeth whiter and brighter. But in reality, they contain chemicals that form a temporary layer on the teeth and cause sensitivity. Apart from this, they can also cause blackening of teeth as yellow layer gets deposited on the gums. Therefore, do not harm your teeth in the process of whitening.

3. Do not use excess water after brushing

We often clean the mouth with water after brushing, but this can be harmful for the teeth. This reduces the amount of fluoride, which reduces the effect of toothpaste. If you must clean your mouth, use non-alcohol mouthwash. Also, avoid eating or drinking anything for at least 30 minutes after brushing.

4. Don’t brush too fast

If you brush your teeth with too much pressure, it is wrong. This can damage the V-shaped skin near the gums. By doing this again and again the gums become weak. Don’t always start brushing from the same side, but vary your technique so that the gums are cleaned from all sides. The brush should always be moved in a circular motion.
