Passengers panic due to cancellation of Indigo flights

New DelhiAir passengers faced problems for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday, Due to cancellation of flights, there was an atmosphere of chaos at major airports of the country, Indigo Airlines canceled more than 600 flights on this day, More than three thousand Indigo flights have been canceled in the last six days, On Sunday, maximum number of 115 flights were canceled at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, while 112 flights were canceled in Mumbai and 109 in Delhi,

At Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, 76 IndiGo flights were also cancelled, of which 53 were scheduled to take off and 23 were scheduled to land. 24 flights from Indore and four from Bhopal were also cancelled. However, amid the canceled flights, Indigo has started giving refunds to passengers and their baggage is also being returned. The company has assured that in the next three days, i.e. by December 10, the situation will become normal.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Ministry has informed that till Sunday evening, IndiGo has refunded more than Rs 610 crore to passengers during the operational crisis. Along with this, the company has also returned more than three thousand baggage across the country. The ministry also said that no additional charges will be levied for refund or re-booking. Support cells have also been set up to assist the passengers.

IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers said that on Sunday the company was operating 1,650 flights on 137 out of 138 destinations. He said that on time performance is expected to be 75 percent. On Saturday, the company operated 1,500 flights, whereas usually IndiGo operates around 2,300 flights every day. The CEO said that services are gradually returning to normal.

However, apart from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad, flight operations at airports like Chennai, Jaipur, Bhopal, Trichy were also affected on Sunday. More than 600 flights were canceled on Sunday. About 800 flights were canceled on Saturday and about 1,600 on Friday. In view of the problems of the passengers, the government has directed the company to complete the refund process by 8 pm on December 7. Apart from this, the company will have to locate and deliver the passengers’ baggage in the next 48 hours. If the company’s CEO does not respond within 24 hours, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) can take a unilateral decision.
