If you hold urine for a long time, it can strain the bladder muscles, and doing so repeatedly can reduce its ability to empty completely. According to a study, stopping urination can cause bacteria to multiply rapidly, increasing the risk of urinary tract infection, especially in women. Experts recommend emptying the bladder every three to four hours. Sometimes, holding urine for a long time can also cause damage to the kidneys.

If you don’t drink enough water, urine becomes more concentrated, which has a negative effect on the inner lining of the bladder and increases the risk of infection. It is recommended to drink at least seven to eight glasses of water every day. However, individuals suffering from kidney or liver disease should consult a doctor before doing so.

According to research by the American Urological Association, excessive caffeine consumption can increase the problem of urinary incontinence. If you drink more than four cups of coffee every day, it can cause problems. Another study found that consuming six to ten alcoholic drinks per week may increase the risk of lower urinary tract problems.

If bathroom cleaning is not done properly, bacteria can enter your urinary tract. Therefore, experts suggest wiping from front to back and not using soaps with harsh chemicals. Sometimes, bacteria can also enter the urinary tract through the vagina during sexual activity.

An unbalanced diet and lack of physical activity can also damage the bladder. Being overweight increases pressure on the bladder, which can cause leakage problems. Pressure on the bladder can be reduced by regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight.
