Swiggy’s report states that on an average, a biryani is ordered every 3.25 seconds in India. This means that approximately 194 biryani reach people every minute. These figures are from Swiggy only, and do not include orders placed from other platforms like Zomato or directly from restaurants, making it clear that the popularity of biryani is even higher.
Increasing demand for chicken biryani
Of the total 93 million biryani orders in 2025, 57.7 million orders were for chicken biryani. This shows that the first choice of most Indians is still chicken biryani. The aroma of spices, long rice and the combination of juicy chicken attracts people to this dish again and again.
A decade journey of biryani
This year, Biryani has completed 10 years as the most popular dish on Swiggy. That one dish has remained on top for so long is proof that Indians’ love for biryani remains steadfast. Swiggy reports that it is undisputedly the most favorite dish.
Other dishes were also popular
Although Biryani won, the popularity of other dishes was also no less. Burgers came in second place, with 44.2 million orders. Pizza came in third place, ordered 40.1 million times. The traditional dish Veg Dosa also made its mark with 26.2 million orders. This shows that the tastes of Indians have equal space for both desi and foreign cuisines.
