Hindi literature legend Vinod Kumar Shukla passes away

A big name in the literary world

Raipur. Famous Hindi poet, storyteller and novelist Vinod Kumar Shukla passed away. His age was 89 years. He was suffering from health problems for some time and he breathed his last on Tuesday evening. He was awarded many prestigious awards like Sahitya Akademi and Jnanpith. His classic compositions include ‘Naukar Ki Kameez’, ‘Deewar Mein Ek Khirki Rehti Thi’, and ‘Khilega To Dekhen’. Manikaul had also made a film with the same name on his novel ‘Naukri Ki Kameez’.

Vinod Kumar Shukla was ill for the last few months and was undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Raipur. While accepting the Jnanpith Award, he had said, ‘When there is talk of crisis in Hindi and other languages, I am confident that the new generation will respect every language and ideology. The destruction of a language or a good idea is the destruction of humanity.

The rich era of literature ends

His demise truly marks the end of a rich era of literature. Vinod Kumar Shukla’s works have enriched Indian global literature. He was the only writer of his generation whose writings inspired a new critical vision. The uniqueness of his language, emotional depth and excellent creativity earned him an important place in Hindi literature.
