This tradition is known as ‘Las Doce Uvas de la Suerte’, which involves eating one grape for each month. This tradition has been around for a long time in Spain, but gained wider recognition through Sofia Vergara’s character in the TV show Modern Family.

Growing popularity in India

In India, this tradition is becoming increasingly popular in urban areas, where people order grapes to welcome the New Year. Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa said that last year on New Year’s night, the delivery of grapes on their platform was seven times more than on normal days.


12 Grapes Recipes

According to this tradition, the participating persons have to eat 12 grapes, one by one, before the clock strikes 12:01 AM. If you don’t do this, you may have to face bad luck throughout the year. In Spain, supermarkets sell tins of ’12 Lucky Grapes’ before New Year, which are peeled and seedless, making them easier to eat.
