Controversy increases against Shahrukh Khan and KKR
KKR embroiled in political controversies
The political atmosphere in India has heated up before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in March 2026. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has come into controversy after buying Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman. Now team co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan is also at the center of criticism. Various political and religious leaders have given sharp statements against him, even calling him a traitor. At the same time, some leaders have also stood in his support. Recently Jagadguru Swami Rambhadracharya and Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri have given statements against Shahrukh Khan.
Sharp attacks on Shahrukh Khan
Rambhadracharya said, “Shahrukh Khan is not a hero. His actions are like those of a traitor.” Meanwhile, Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri said, “Incidents against Hindutva are happening in Bangladesh. The players there should raise their voice so that Hindus can be protected.” Meanwhile, former Sardhana MLA Sangeet Som also commented on Shahrukh Khan, saying that he is spending Rs 9.5 crore to buy Mustafizur Rahman, which will not be tolerated.
Warning from religious leaders
Religious leader Devkinandan Thakur warned Shahrukh Khan that the country which made him a superstar, will he repay that debt by bringing the Bangladeshi cricketer? Maharashtra State Minority Commission Chairman Pyare Khan also supported this and said that the safety of minorities should be ensured.
Uncertainty over Mustafizur Rahman’s participation
Despite deteriorating diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh, there is still uncertainty over Mustafizur Rahman’s participation in IPL 2026. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has ruled out any ban on Bangladeshi players and has adopted a ‘wait and see’ policy until instructions from the government. Mustafizur Rahman was the only Bangladeshi player to be sold in the IPL 2026 mini-auction, bought by KKR for Rs 9.20 crore. However, since the auction, KKR is facing severe criticism on social media.
