The Kerala Story 2 gets U/A certificate, know the full story
The film got relief
Mumbai: The film ‘The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond’ has got a significant respite amid the controversies. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has awarded it a U/A certificate. This means that viewers over the age of 14 can watch it under parental supervision. This film getting a U/A certificate instead of ‘A’ (Adults Only) is considered a big success for the producers.
Release date of ‘Kerala Story 2’
The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on 27 February 2026. Since the launch of the trailer, the film has become the center of political and social discussions. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called it ‘false propaganda’ and ‘toxic’, while Congress leader KC Venugopal has also criticized it. Many people consider it a film spreading communal agenda.
Manufacturer’s response
CBFC’s decision has given a positive signal to the producers. Producer Vipul Amritlal Shah has expressed happiness on this certificate. He said, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Censor Board for granting a U/A certificate to our film. It reflects their confidence that we have presented the story with honesty and the right intentions. This decision is especially important as it will allow us to reach out to young girls and families across the country.”
purpose of the film
Vipul further said that the aim of the film is not to hurt anyone but to spread awareness. The film is based on true incidents of girls trapped in forced conversion rackets. The makers claim that it is inspired by real incidents related to the Indian legal system. Like the first film, it also deals with issues like love jihad and forced conversion, but this time the story expands beyond Kerala to events spread across India.
Pan-India release planned
The makers have announced that the film will be released in Hindi as well as Telugu and Kannada, further expanding the scope for a pan-India release. Director Kamakhya Narayan Singh has made it with sensitivity. Some scenes shown in the trailer, such as the scene of force-feeding beef and the warning that Sharia will be implemented in India after 25 years, have further increased the controversy. A petition has also been filed against the film in the Kerala High Court, demanding cancellation of the certificate. But the makers say that they are presenting a story based on facts and their main objective is to bring awareness to the society.
