Truth of UP Jal Jeevan Mission
Story of corruption in Jal Jeevan Mission
Lucknow. News of corruption related to Jal Jeevan Mission scheme in Uttar Pradesh has now become common. In this scheme, there are incomplete works, leaks in pipelines, broken roads and 100 percent progress is being claimed on paper, whereas the reality is something else. The central government’s target was to provide tap water to every household by 2024, but the opposition is calling it ‘corruption life mission’.
Recently, a case of large-scale corruption has come to light in the Jal Nigam in Basti, UP. Here, taps have been installed in people’s homes, but not a single tank has been built to supply water. The contractors and officials have grabbed all the money. In Hardiya village of Sadar Block, construction of a water tank has been shown on paper by showing expenditure of crores of rupees, whereas it has no existence on the ground. There are taps and taps in the village, but there is no water. Villagers say that whether the tap is straight or upside down, water does not come.
Congress alleges: BJP leaders are doing corruption
The Congress party shared a video on its official social media, in which the water tank named ‘Mr. India’ in UP has been mentioned. The party said that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a tank was built in a village of Basti by spending about Rs 2 crore, but it is only on paper. He alleged that schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission have become an instrument of corruption in the BJP government, where leaders are embezzling thousands of crores of rupees in the name of tenders and works.
Know the whole story of corruption
In the year 2015-16, an expenditure of Rs 2.25 crore was shown under the Nirmal scheme, in which it was claimed that a grand water tank was built in the village. Then in 2019-20, construction of another tank at the same place by spending lakhs of rupees was shown on paper. But today there is not a single tank there. Villagers say that the first tank started leaking shortly after its construction. The quality was so bad that it was dropped. The second tank seemed to have disappeared. There is only one board in the premises, on which the name and cost of the scheme is written. The villagers say that water does not come, and they have to wait with buckets. The officers do not listen to them.
Jal Nigam’s clarification
In this matter, Executive Engineer of Jal Nigam Yogendra Prasad came in front of the camera and gave clarification. He said that the second board installed is for the repair of the water tank. In the year 2020, there was a malfunction in the tank, for which Rs 32 lakh was spent. But when he was asked that the tank was built in just 10 years and then it was repaired by spending lakhs, he did not answer this. However, he said the water tank had leaked due to fake work, so it had to be demolished. Soon after getting funds from the government, a new water tank will be constructed.
