Started film direction at a young age
Sooraj Barjatya entered the field of direction at a young age. Before this, he worked with Mahesh Bhatt to understand the nuances of filmmaking. Today, at the age of 62, Sooraj has made a lasting mark in Hindi cinema. In his career spanning 37 years, he has directed less than a dozen films, but almost all of his films have been successful.
Experience as assistant to Mahesh Bhatt
In an interview, Sooraj told that he contacted Mahesh Bhatt and expressed his desire to become his assistant. He did many odd jobs and also worked as a clap boy. Bhatt told him that a good filmmaker must be a good script writer. Following this advice, Suraj took interest in writing and read many magazines to broaden his perspective.
Started direction at the age of 24
After working with Mahesh Bhatt, Sooraj started his directorial career at the age of only 24. His first film was ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, which was released in 1989. Bhagyashree and Salman Khan played lead roles in this film. This romantic family film became the highest-grossing film of that year.
Major films of Sooraj Barjatya
Sooraj made ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ (1994) 5 years after ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. Subsequently, he also directed successful films like ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ (1999). Apart from this, he has also directed films like ‘Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon’, ‘Vivah’, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ and ‘Unchai’. Currently, he is working on a film titled ‘Yeh Prem Mol Liya’ and a series titled ‘Sangmarmar’.
