Karnataka High Court reprimanded
High Court’s strict comment on Ranveer Singh’s mimicry
Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has recently landed in trouble before the Karnataka High Court due to his controversial comments and mimicry. The court termed him negligent for commenting on a scene from the Kannada film “Kantara”. The court said that no superstar is above the law. “You are an actor, and your words have a huge impact. You should understand your responsibility,” the court said. Actually, Ranveer had mocked the goddess by calling her a “ghost” while imitating the “Daiva” scene of the film, which hurt Hindu religious sentiments and an FIR was registered against him.
Court hearing and Ranveer’s defense
Hearing Ranveer Singh’s petition, the bench of Justice M. Nagaprasanna heard the arguments of his lawyer Sajan Poovayya. The court directed Ranveer that he should cooperate in the investigation. The judge made it clear that no religious symbol can be insulted. “You should have done your research first,” the judge said.
Reason for Ranveer Singh’s petition
Ranveer had approached the High Court for relief against the FIR. He said that his intention was not to offend anyone, but it was an appreciation of the film. His lawyers sought an urgent hearing as he had already received two police notices.
Court’s rebuke and Ranveer’s careless statement
During the hearing, senior advocate Sajan Poovayya said that Ranveer’s statement was given carelessly. The judge said that it is important that the actor realizes his responsibilities. “You should not call a goddess a ghost. It hurts religious sentiments,” the judge said.
The judge also said that Ranveer will have to face the consequences of his actions. “You have to understand that your words have impact. You can’t take that lightly,” the judge said.
Reference to Imran Pratapgarhi case
Ranveer’s lawyer, referring to the case of Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi, said that this statement was not made intentionally. The judge reacted to this and said that this is a serious oversight. “You must understand that this is a sacred subject,” the judge said.
interim order of the court
The court has given an interim relief to Ranveer. The judge said that Ranveer had commented on Chamundi Devi and had later apologized. The court directed the state not to take any coercive steps and the next hearing of the case will be on Monday.
