He was born on 25 February 1948 in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. His real name is Tshering Phintso Denzongpa. Since his name was difficult to pronounce, he was given the name ‘Danny’, coined by veteran actress Jaya Bachchan.

Danny always dreamed of working in the film industry and came to Mumbai for this. He had only Rs 1500. One day while roaming in Juhu, he reached the bungalow of director Mohan Kumar. There were many guards from Sikkim there, which allowed them easy entry. Danny told Mohan that he wanted to become an actor, but Mohan did not take him seriously and offered him the job of a guard.

Danny started his career in 1971 with the film ‘Mere Apne’. After this, he played a negative character in the 1973 film ‘Dhundh’. In his career spanning over 50 years, he has worked in more than 190 films like ‘Dharmatma’, ‘Agneepath’, ‘Naam Shabana’, ‘Baby’, ‘Jai Ho’, ‘Kali Ghata’, ‘Lal Kothi’, ‘Humse Hai Jamana’, ‘Bandish’, ‘Kalicharan’, ‘Laila Majnu’.
