Emergency landing of Indigo flight at Delhi airport

Emergency landing incident at Delhi airport

New Delhi. There was panic at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday morning when a technical glitch was reported in IndiGo flight 6E 579 coming from Visakhapatnam. A ‘full emergency’ was immediately declared on Runway 28 due to a possible engine failure. All necessary emergency services, such as fire engines and ambulances, were deployed at the airport.

Due to the skill of the pilot and the promptness of the airport administration, the flight made a safe emergency landing at 10:54 am, thereby averting a major accident. At the time of landing, the entire runway was on high alert and preparations were made to deal with all possible situations. There were a total of 161 passengers on board the plane, who were evacuated safely immediately after landing. After preliminary investigation, the passengers were sent to their destination. There is no report of injury to any passenger, which is a matter of relief.

According to preliminary information, the emergency call was given due to a technical fault in the flight. IndiGo’s technical team is now conducting a thorough inspection of the aircraft to ascertain the severity and actual cause of the fault.

The incident comes at a time when a recent Parliamentary Standing Committee report has raised concerns over the Indian aviation sector. According to the report, 754 commercial aircraft were audited between January 2025 and February 2026, out of which 377 aircraft were found to have persistent technical deficiencies. Thus, this emergency landing is not just an incident but points to a major threat.
