We often believe that home-cooked food is not only delicious but also beneficial for health. Many Bollywood stars also say that pulses, roti, vegetables and ghee are very beneficial for health. But you will be surprised to know that this is not always true.

Cholesterol increases not only from fat but also from refined carbs. Roti, flour, biscuits and packaged snacks are high in carbs, which are helpful in increasing blood sugar and LDL in the body.

At home, puris and pakodas are fried again and again in the same oil. These contain oxidized fat, which is very harmful for the heart. This oil is harmful for health.

papad, pickle and namkeen

These foods contain salt and unhealthy fats, which increase cholesterol levels. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, items containing salt and unhealthy fats are harmful for the heart. Consuming just one thing does not affect health, but following a pattern causes problems.

Ways to reduce cholesterol levels

As per the report of National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), a healthy lifestyle can help in reducing obesity.

  • Eat a balanced diet.
  • Include whole grains, pulses, fruits and vegetables in your diet. These foods are helpful in reducing cholesterol levels.
  • Eat oats and whole grains instead of refined carbs.
  • Include fiber rich foods in your diet.
