Increase in heart diseases due to diet: Study findings
Effect of food and drink on health
Our diet has a deep impact on our health. Due to bad lifestyle, the risk of diseases is increasing in children also. A recent study has revealed that 59.1 lakh people are likely to lose their lives due to heart diseases in 2023, which is mainly due to high consumption of sodium-rich foods and lack of fruits and whole grains.
Study details
Researchers from Beijing Children’s Hospital in China analyzed data from the ‘Global Burden of Disease Study 2023’, which evaluated 13 dietary risk factors over the course of 33 years.
Deaths due to heart diseases due to diet
The number of deaths due to diet-related heart diseases was 13.6 lakh in China and 11.1 lakh in India. This study published in the journal ‘Innovation Nutrition’ has also made it clear that ‘ischemic’ heart disease and ‘stroke’ are the main consequences of poor eating habits.
higher risk in men
The study also found that men faced more diet-related problems than women in almost all regions. ‘Our findings suggest that improving diet quality should be an important aspect of global heart disease prevention,’ said researcher Guoshuang Feng of the Big Data Center at Beijing Children’s Hospital.
impact of health services
Feng also said that the death rate has decreased due to better health services, but overall the problem is huge. The researchers noted that globally, high sodium intake is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease, followed by diets lacking fruits and whole grains, leading to many people suffering from the disease.
