Controversy of Meenu Mumtaz: Born on April 26, 1942 in Mumbai, Meenu Mumtaz, real name Malikunnisa, became one of the leading dancers of Indian cinema. He was praised for his choreography and emotional acting, and even received praise from the great dancer Helen. But behind this success is a story of struggle and controversy which shook the entire country.
childhood full of difficulties

Meenu’s childhood was not easy. His father, Mumtaz Ali, struggled with alcohol addiction, causing financial crisis for the family. Many times the family had to sleep hungry. These difficulties forced Meenu to grow up early and take up responsibilities.
From stage to stardom

He started performing on stage with his father, not only for his passion but also to support the family. Meenu worked hard and entered films in the mid-1950s. He got his first major success from the film ‘CID’, in which Guru Dutt recognized his talent.
Brother’s unique address

His brother, the famous comedian Mahmood Ali, used to call him ‘Bhai’. This address reflected the deep respect between them. When the male members of the family were facing difficulties, Meenu raised her siblings.
The controversy that shook the country

One of the most talked about moments of his career is related to the film ‘Howrah Bridge’. In the song ‘Gora Rang Chunariya Kali’ from the film, Meenu was featured with her brother Mehmood. When the truth came out that they were brother and sister, there was an uproar in the entire country.
silent farewell

At the peak of her career, Meenu married Syed Ali Akbar in 1963 and gradually moved away from films. He embraced family life and raised his children. In the last years of her life, Meenu moved to Canada, where she lived a peaceful life with her family. He died on October 23, 2021.
