Sanjay Dutt’s apology step

Mumbai: Famous Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday and gave clarification on the controversy over the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the film ‘KD: The Devil’. Nora Fatehi is also included in this song. Considering the lyrics and video of the song as obscene, NCW had issued a notice to Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi.

Sanjay Dutt’s reaction on ‘Sarke Chunar’ controversy

Sanjay Dutt’s lawyer Hemant Shah, while talking to the media, said that Sanjay did not know the meaning of the lyrics of the song, because the song was recorded in another language, which he could not understand. Nevertheless, he apologized unconditionally, respecting the women and the Commission. Along with this, he has also promised to bear the expenses of education of 50 girls.

Background of the song controversy

This controversy started as soon as the song was released in March. People strongly criticized the lyrics and dance of the song on social media. Many people believed that women were being misrepresented in the name of entertainment. NCW took suo motu cognizance of this and declared the song obscene. The hearing was held under the chairmanship of the Commission, in which emphasis was laid on maintaining the dignity of women.

Sanjay Dutt also gave a written apology before the commission. He said that his intention was not to hurt anyone’s sentiments. According to his lawyer, Sanjay Dutt has respect for women and is in favor of raising awareness in this matter. The song had already been removed from YouTube. This incident again gives rise to debate on the portrayal of women in Bollywood and South Indian cinema.
