Manna Dey’s early life

Manna Dey’s real name was Prabodh Chandra Dey. He was born on 1 May 1919 in Kolkata. He had a keen interest in music since childhood, and there was a musical environment in his family, which strengthened his foundation. He learned the nuances of music from his uncle Krishna Chandra Dey and Ustad Dabir Khan, which proved helpful in shaping his identity.

beginning of career

Manna Dey started his career in 1942 with the film ‘Tamanna’. He also had to face struggles in the initial days, but his hard work and dedication gradually brought him recognition. Along with Hindi, he also sang songs in Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam and Assamese languages.
