Health effects of excessive oil consumption

increasing use of oil

The use of oil in Indian cuisine has become very common nowadays. Dishes like tadka, deep fry, parathas, samosas and pakodas seem incomplete without oil. However, experts say that excessive oil and fried foods can gradually harm your health.

consumption of fried foods

According to a report by Radcliffe Labs, about 38 percent of people in India regularly consume fried snacks and processed foods, while only 28 percent have a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables and other nutritious items. The consumption of high calorie and oily foods is increasing, which is worrying.

Effects on digestive system

After eating oily food, people often complain of heaviness in the stomach, bloating, acidity and indigestion. The reason for this is that the body has to work harder to digest more fat, which slows down digestion and increases pressure on the intestines. Doing this for a long time can cause constipation, gas and other stomach related problems.

weight gain problem

Oil has a very high calorie content. One teaspoon of oil contains about 120 calories. Using excess oil daily increases calorie intake, which leads to rapid weight gain. Accumulation of fat, especially around the stomach, has become common, which can cause many health problems.

risk to heart health

Excess oil, especially refined and frequently used oils, increases cholesterol. This can cause blockage in the arteries, increase blood pressure and increase the risk of heart attack or stroke manifold. Experts say that food rich in trans fat and saturated fat is most dangerous for the heart.

fatty liver problem

Excessive oily foods have adverse effects on the liver. The liver begins to accumulate excess fat, which can lead to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Initially there are no symptoms, but later fatigue, stomach pain and, in severe cases, even liver cirrhosis can occur.

Effects on mood and mental health

Health experts say that excess fried foods can increase the chances of mood swings, irritability and even depression. Due to inflammation in the body and lack of nutrients, the brain is unable to function properly.

What to do?

Limit the use of oil (3-4 teaspoons daily is enough).

Choose healthy oils like mustard, olive or coconut oil.

Give preference to roasted or steamed foods.

Reduce your intake of excessive fried snacks.
