Micro cheating: a new form of deception in relationships
New meaning of micro cheating in relationships
With time, the definition and problems of today’s relationships have completely changed. In the past, cheating only meant having physical relations with someone else. But now, in the social media and digital age, a new term ‘micro cheating’ has become quite prevalent.
Is micro cheating really cheating?
This question cannot be answered directly in yes or no. It depends on what boundaries you and your partner have set in your relationship. Sometimes, liking photos of old friends can be normal, but if your partner intentionally looks at an ex’s photos at night or likes their posts behind your back, it’s a warning sign.
Flirting and micro cheating
Light banter is fine in the office, but flirting in the name of a joke is clearly micro cheating. If someone comes to the office dressed up or shares personal details to impress a particular co-worker, this could be emotional cheating.
How to identify micro cheating?
Partner being more possessive about the phone: If your partner has suddenly become very sensitive towards their phone, changes the password frequently, or hides the phone screen from you, it could be a sign of micro cheating.
Privacy on Social Media: Commenting on every post of a particular person and secretly chatting on social media, then passing it off as a common friend when caught.
Comparing with others: Repeatedly praising office colleagues or friends and finding faults in you.
Saving number with fake name: Saving a special person’s number with a fake name so that you don’t get suspicious.
