In their quest to get glowing skin, people often buy products recommended on social media or try different facial home remedies (hacks). But, there are some things which should never be applied on the face. Even though these may provide immediate benefits, they can harm the skin in the future.
Toothpaste is made for teeth, not skin; So, the next time someone suggests a related skincare recipe, don’t try it. This can disturb the pH balance of your skin. It contains harsh ingredients that can dry out the skin.
You will find many such home remedies on social media in which it is advised to use baking soda to remove dark spots, but this thing takes away the moisture from the skin, due to which the skin can become very dry and lifeless. Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is highly alkaline, which can cause rashes, burning, and itching.
Apple cider vinegar is also very acidic. Applying it directly to the skin can cause a chemical burn, causing irritation and removing the skin’s natural moisture. If you want to use it on the face, always dilute it with water and do a patch test first.
Homemade sugar or coffee scrubs are often promoted on social media for skincare. Although these may be beneficial for the skin of the hands and feet, they are too harsh for the face. Coffee and sugar granules are rough and can cause rubbing or scratching on the skin.
Lemon juice has been used in skincare for a long time. Although it is rich in Vitamin C, one should not make the mistake of applying it directly on the skin. Its acidic nature makes it too harsh for the skin.
