Correct use of sunscreen for children: Know important things
Importance of sunscreen
It is essential to use sunscreen with the correct SPF to protect the skin from bright sunlight and harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. This advice is for people of all ages, especially children. Therefore, it is important for parents to know which sunscreen is suitable for children at which age. Before applying sunscreen on children’s skin, it is important to keep some important things in mind.
doctor’s advice
Dermatologist Dr. Haysam Aldick has shared information on this topic in a video. He says that children younger than 6 months should not apply sunscreen, because their skin is very sensitive at this age. After 6 months, sunscreen can be applied to children, but it is necessary to take care of some special things.
For children of 6 months to 2 years
According to Dr. Aldik, children younger than 6 months should wear light and body-covering clothes to protect them from the sun. Along with this, wearing a wide brimmed hat is also beneficial. After 6 months, it is better for babies to use sunscreen containing zinc oxide, which is considered safe for their delicate skin.
For children above 2 years
For children older than 2 years, mineral or other types of sunscreen can be used depending on their skin. It may be in the form of spray, gel, lotion or cream. It is mandatory to apply sunscreen before going out in the sun. Dr. Aldik said that if sunscreen is not applied then it is better to apply any good sunscreen.
Importance of sunscreen for children
Experts say that children’s skin can also be affected by sunlight like adults, but their skin is more sensitive. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause skin damage and increase the risk of skin cancer over time. Therefore it is very important to protect children from the sun.
