Tamil actor Vimal sentenced to one year in jail
court decision
A court in Tamil Nadu capital Chennai on Thursday sentenced famous actor Vimal to one year in prison in a Rs 4.5 crore check bounce case.
The actor had borrowed Rs 4.5 crore from film financier Gopi for the production of his film ‘Mannar Vagaiyara’. When the film released, the financier attempted to recover the amount, but the checks issued by the actor bounced as there were not sufficient funds in the bank account.
The court found that the allegations leveled against the actor have been proven beyond any doubt. Based on this, he sentenced Vimal to one year in jail and also ordered him to return the borrowed amount.
The court has granted a temporary stay on the execution of the sentence on the plea of the actor’s lawyer to give him an opportunity to file an appeal in the High Court.
