Contribution of Bal Gangadhar Tilak
Bal Gangadhar Tilak was a prominent leader of the Indian freedom struggle, social reformer, lawyer, and educationist. He was honored with the title of ‘Lokmanya’, which means ‘recognized by the people’. The British rule considered him the ‘father of Indian unrest’, but he was actually a hero who awakened the spirit of Swaraj. Tilak was a strong supporter of Complete Swaraj, and the slogans given by him keep the spirit of patriotism alive among Indians even today. The trio of Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal is known as ‘Lal-Bal-Pal’. He believed that education was essential for the progress of the country. In 1884, he founded the Deccan Education Society and later started the famous Fergusson College in Pune. His thoughts still inspire confidence in people.
