Christopher Nolan’s respect for Indian cinema
Famous Hollywood director Christopher Nolan has paid tribute to Indian cinema legend Satyajit Ray. During a visit to the Criterion Closet in New York, Nolan mentioned Rai’s famous ‘Apu Trilogy’ and particularly praised the first film ‘Pather Panchali’, which he described as extremely influential.

In a video, Nolan said, ‘Satyajit Ray is one of India’s greatest filmmakers. His Apu Trilogy starts with ‘Pather Panchali’, which is a wonderful film. It completely impressed me. He also revealed that he has only seen the first film and is looking forward to watching the remaining two films.

Satyajit Ray’s iconic trilogy consists of three Bengali films: ‘Pather Panchali’, ‘Aparajito’ and ‘Apur Sansar’ (The World of Apu). These films are based on the novel by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay. ‘Pather Panchali’ depicts the story of little Apu and his family amid poverty and dreams in rural Bengal. It is considered a priceless masterpiece of world cinema.
