New updates to YouTube Shorts: better video viewing experience
New features launched in YouTube Shorts
Competition among short video platforms is increasing, and due to this YouTube is doing new experiments to improve the experience of its users. Recently, the company announced several important updates to YouTube Shorts, which aim to make watching videos even simpler, faster, and personal. The company says that these changes have been made on the basis of feedback received from users and will be implemented for all users in a phased manner.
Less scatter, more focus
While watching short videos, buttons like text, like, comment and share on the screen sometimes hinder the viewing experience. To solve this problem, YouTube has introduced a new “Clear Screen Mode”.
Activating this feature will cause all interface elements on the screen to disappear for some time, allowing the user to focus only on the video content. This will be especially useful for users watching travel, cinematic and educational videos.
Facility to watch videos at double speed
In today's fast-paced life, people want to get more information in less time. Keeping this in mind, playback speed control is being added to YouTube Shorts.
Now users will be able to watch any short video at 2X speed i.e. double the speed. This feature will be beneficial for those who want to watch long short videos related to news, tutorials or information quickly. This will save time and make content consumption more effective.
New audio controls and timer
YouTube has also added some additional tools to make watching videos more convenient. Now users can pause the video by tapping on the screen and can also turn off the audio if needed.
The company is also introducing a new “Shorts Timer” feature, which will allow users to better control their viewing time. There will also be an option to set the timer to zero, so that users can decide the duration of watching the video as per their convenience.
Dislike button removal
YouTube has also made a big change in the way content interaction is done. The company plans to remove the traditional “Dislike” button from the Shorts player.
According to the company, data analysis found that users' intentions behind the dislike button were not always clear. Sometimes people disliked it because of bad audio, while sometimes it was just because they didn't like the subject matter. In such a situation, the use of this signal was not considered effective in giving accurate recommendations.
Improve content recommendation
After removing the Dislike button, YouTube will now focus on more precise curation tools. Users will be given options like “Not Interested” and “Don't Recommend This Channel”, so that people can easily tell what kind of content they do not want to see.
This will allow YouTube's recommendation algorithm to better understand user preferences and suggest more relevant videos. At the same time, the option to report videos that violate community guidelines will be available as before.
The new experience of YouTube Shorts
YouTube's new updates show that the company is not just focusing on adding new features, but is also focusing on making the user experience cleaner, personalized and controlled. Features like clear screen mode, 2X playback, mute control and smart recommendations can make YouTube Shorts more useful and attractive than ever in the future.
