CISF Raising Day 2026: What is CISF? From airports to nuclear centers, know how this force protects

Role Of CISF In India: Every year on 10 March, India celebrates the raising day of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). This force, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, not only protects our airports and metro but is also an invincible shield for the country’s ultra-sensitive nuclear institutions and space centres.

The Central Industrial Security Force was established on this day i.e. 10 March 1969 through an Act of Parliament. In the initial phase, it was under the command of only 3,129 personnel and its main objective was to provide security to the public sector undertakings (PSUs) of the country. However, in view of the changing challenges and threats of terrorism with time, it was declared an armed force of India in the year 1983.

Why is March 10 special?

March 10 is dedicated to the discipline, bravery and dedication of thousands of soldiers who tirelessly protect the country’s property. Today the strength of CISF has increased to more than 1.7 lakh personnel. At present this force is providing security to more than 350 strategic institutions of the country.

Airport and Metro: Responsible for the security of more than 60 international and domestic airports of the country as well as Delhi Metro.

Sensitive Institutions: Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), ISRO centers and major ports.

Through hybrid security models, the force is now taking steps towards providing security cover to small industries and emerging economic sectors as well.

With its motto of protection and security, CISF is a silent sentinel of India’s economic development. This journey of 57 years shows how a force has adapted with time and has today become one of the most versatile security forces globally.
