CJI Surya Kant administered oath, for the first time in history the number of judges increased to 37.

Today a new golden chapter has been added in the history of the country’s highest court i.e. the Supreme Court. Taking a historic step towards making the judiciary more strong and dynamic, five new judges have been appointed to the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant administered the oath of office and secrecy to all five new judges in a dignified ceremony today. With this new appointment, the Supreme Court has created a record that has never been seen before in the history of the Indian judiciary. For the first time, the number of judges in the top court is at a record level. With the assumption of charge of these five new judges, the total number of judges in the top court of the country has now increased to 37. This is the first time in the history of the Supreme Court when the number of judges has reached this record figure. This numerical strength is being considered very important and decisive in reducing the burden of cases pending in the courts for a long time and providing speedy justice to the general public. Legal experts believe that increasing the number of judges will significantly speed up the formation of larger constitutional benches and hearing of important cases. CJI Surya Kant administered the oath of office and secrecy. In this special swearing-in ceremony held in the administrative complex of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Justice Surya Kant administered the oath to all the new judges one by one. Other senior judges of the Supreme Court, Bar Association officials, senior advocates and family members of the newly appointed judges were present at the ceremony. After taking oath, the CJI congratulated all the new colleagues and expressed hope that their extensive legal experience will be used in making the justice system of the country more transparent and strong. There will be huge speed in disposal of pending cases. Pending of crores of cases in the courts of the country has always been a matter of great concern. There are thousands of such cases in the Supreme Court which are waiting for decision for years. In such a situation, with the arrival of five new capable and experienced judges, the speed of disposal of cases is expected to increase manifold. This historic extension will not only speed up the judicial process but will also save time and money of common complainants coming from every corner of the country hoping for justice. After this big change, it is now expected that the Supreme Court is fully prepared to give many big and historic decisions in the coming days.
