CJI Surya Kant’s big statement on ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ which created a stir on social media, said to the petitioner – ‘It is so…’
New Delhi: These days, a strange name ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) is becoming increasingly viral in the world of social media. It’s not just this, the number of people following this trend on Instagram has crossed 20 million i.e. 2 crores. Now a new and big statement of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant has come out regarding this entire controversy and viral trend, after which ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ has once again become a topic of discussion across the country.
Actually, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court regarding this ongoing controversy on social media. During the hearing on this petition, Chief Justice Surya Kant, while trying to calm the matter, told the petitioner in very simple words, “Don’t take it so sentimentally.”
Lawyers angry over misuse of courtroom words, demand investigation
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the petitioner’s lawyer had requested the court to hear the matter immediately. The petition demanded that there should be a thorough investigation into the alleged misuse of this viral trend going on on social media. The petitioner alleges that despite the Chief Justice already giving clarification in this matter, a ‘malicious’ narrative i.e. a wrong environment is being created on the internet. He says that this is having a negative impact on the justice system of the country and the credibility of the court. The lawyer also requested the Supreme Court to immediately ban the use of verbal conversations inside the courtroom commercially or selectively disseminate them on social media.
Demand raised for CBI investigation into fake law degree case
In this petition, not only the issue of social media trend was raised, but another very big and serious issue has also been raised in it. The petition also mentions the old and shocking claim of the chairperson of the Bar Council of India (BCI), in which it was said that about ’35 to 40 percent of the law degrees in the country are fake’. The petitioner has placed before the court a demand for an impartial investigation by the CBI into this serious claim.
After listening to all this debate and arguments, Chief Justice Surya Kant showed leniency and said, “There is no such big emergency, we will look into it.” The CJI clearly indicated from his stand that even though a need is felt to take immediate action in this matter, it is very important to investigate all the facts thoroughly and deeply before that. At present, the Supreme Court bench has indicated to take some more time for further investigation and consideration of this petition.
After all, where did the whole controversy of ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ start?
For those who are unaware of this entire matter, let us tell them that this entire controversy of ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ started after a comment made by Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant on May 16. When various things started happening on social media and media reports regarding this statement, the CJI himself expressed deep concern over it.
While clarifying the situation, the Chief Justice had already made it clear that his words have been misinterpreted by some people and media. The CJI had made it clear in strong words that his target was not at all on the youth of the country, rather he was talking about those people who are trying to enter a respectable legal profession like advocacy with the help of ‘fake and fake degrees’. However, after this latest comment by the court, it remains to be seen whether this CJP trend going on on social media stops or gains momentum.
