Clive Madande’s Personal Life
Clive Madande is a Zimbabwe wicketkeeper-batter who says cricket changed his life when he was just 12 years old. His father took him to watch Zimbabwe play Pakistan at Harare Sports Club in 2014. Zimbabwe won that Test by 24 runs, and that moment made him decide he wanted to play cricket seriously.
Since then, Zimbabwe cricket has gone through many struggles. There were board suspensions, money problems, fewer matches, and not enough facilities. The team also missed out on big tournaments like the recent T20 World Cup. In the past six years, they played very few Test matches and were not part of the World Test Championship.
Even during tough times, Zimbabwe managed some surprise wins, like when they beat Australia in an ODI and upset Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Madande says senior former players like Dave Houghton and Tatenda Taibu still guide and motivate the younger players. He often speaks to them when he needs advice.
Madande believes playing stronger teams regularly will help them improve. He also feels home support will give them confidence, as cricket remains very popular among schoolboys and young players in Zimbabwe. He hopes more Zimbabwe cricketers get chances in franchise leagues because that would inspire more young talent back home.
Zimbabwe Cricket is also planning better facilities, such as a national academy and improved domestic structures. Madande is hopeful that with these steps, Zimbabwe can inspire the next generation.
