CM Mamata prepared to make a dent in BJP, speculations intensifies on influential leader getting highest honor before elections
West Bengal Elections 2026 : Before the announcement of assembly elections in West Bengal, political parties have started making their strategy. During the election season, the process of leaders joining from one party to another continues. Meanwhile, a big move by CM Mamata Banerjee has created a stir in the BJP and the crisis of infighting in the main opposition party has started deepening.

In fact, on the occasion of ‘International Mother Language Day’, personalities with special contribution in art, culture, literature, public administration and public service were honored in a program organized at Deshapriya Park in Kolkata on Saturday. During this period, 25 distinguished personalities were honored with state civil awards. In which one name of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Nagen Roy was also included. He has been given the state’s highest civilian honor ‘Banga Vibhushan’. This honor was given by CM Mamata Banerjee herself, in which Nagen Roy was honored with a robe and a citation.
Nagen Roy is an influential leader of the Rajbanshi community and Roy is also known as Ananta Maharaj in his community. Who has been considered an important influence in the politics of North Bengal. Now after being awarded this highest civilian honour, discussion has started about Nagen Roy’s closeness to TMC. This is a matter of concern for the BJP, because due to the influence of Nagen Roy, the party has recently done wonders in the politics of North Bengal.
Roy has been close to TMC in the past too, but later he joined hands with BJP. However, he had recently expressed dissatisfaction over the special revision process of the voter list. Now being honored by CM Mamata is going to raise the political temperature. Honoring Nagen Roy, Mamata Banerjee said that he has been given this honor for his contribution in preserving Rajbanshi language and culture and expressed hope that he will continue to work for the society in future also.
On the other hand, Nageen Roy expressed surprise at being honored with ‘Banga Vibhushan’. He said that I had never even imagined this. Meanwhile, when the BJP MP was asked about speculations about defection, he said that he had no such intention. He is not joining any party and has limited interest in politics. At present, this development has heated up politics before the elections to be held in April-May.
