CM Mamata lost her sleep due to the expectation of BJP’s victory

Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee’s first statement has come after the exit polls of West Bengal Assembly elections came out. She posted a video on social media platform X on Thursday (April 30, 2026) evening, in which she is seen claiming TMC’s victory in Bengal. In the caption accompanying the video, he wrote, ‘TMC will lead on 230 seats. We are going to form a government of the motherland and the people. Jai Bangla!’

In the video, Mamata Banerjee said, ‘Hello! My greetings, salute, johar and Jai Jiren to the land of Bengal and its people. All of you stay well, stay healthy – we are very grateful to you. Despite so much heat, so many difficulties and atrocities, we are grateful to you for the way you stood in the queue and voted.

She said, ‘I also wholeheartedly thank our workers, who fought at the risk of their lives, endured atrocities and stood firm despite the combined pressure of the Central Force and the local force. The entire machinery of the Government of India – from the Prime Minister, the Home Minister to the BJP leaders of 19 states – tried to suppress the people of Bengal with the help of money, power and weapons, but the public gave the answer in the vote box.

Mamta Banerjee said, ‘I want to assure you that what is being shown on TV is a conspiracy from the BJP office. I have clear information that this narrative has been spread by paying money. The reality is that we can go up to 200-300 seats, will cross 226 in 2026. I have full faith in the public’s decision.

Mamta Banerjee said, ‘BJP used agencies- ED, CBI, Income Tax, misused the Central Force. At many places women, children and workers were tortured. My deepest condolences to the family of the person who went to vote in Udaynarayanpur and was killed – we are with them. He said, ‘Our workers and journalists were also killed at many places. In Bhawanipur and Chakrabediya, even women and children were not spared. Many people were deliberately arrested so that they could not work as agents. The same happened in many areas like Bhatpara, Jagatdal, Noapada.

Mamta Banerjee said, ‘I have not slept for two nights. There have been continuous raids, but I want to tell you – this is a conspiracy of BJP. They could not take away the rights of the people, so now they are playing the last game through the media, so that the morale of the people and workers is broken. I want to say clearly – this happened in 2016 and 2021 also. Exit polls were always shown in favor of BJP. Today impartiality has ended in the country.

Mamta Banerjee said, ‘I appeal to all the workers and candidates – remain alert till the counting. Every candidate should monitor himself on 294 seats. There should be workers during the day and the candidates themselves should guard at night. If needed, I will guard myself. There is a possibility of disturbance when the EVM machines are moved from the store to the counting hall – so keep a close eye. Be alert from counting table to computer upload, because there may be attempts to make changes there too.

Mamta Banerjee said, ‘If you have to go somewhere, then go only with a trustworthy person – whom no one can buy. This small effort is necessary to protect the people of Bengal and their rights. Everyone remain calm, maintain patience. Have faith in Didi, have faith in the people of Bengal. We will form a government of ‘Maa Mati Manush’ – have this faith. Even if we are attacked, do not immediately respond with violence. There is no need to take law into one’s hands. We will answer this democratically.

Mamta Banerjee said, ‘I also want to tell the administration – enough is enough. Now hands should not be raised on anyone during counting. Bengal does not belong to external forces – it belongs to the people of Bengal. BJP does not have its own agents, hence central force was used. This is against democracy. The Prime Minister gives statements during elections, but does he know the soil of Bengal, its culture, Rabindranath, Nazrul, Netaji? The truth is that the elections were fought on the basis of lies and propaganda.

Mamta Banerjee finally said, ‘I know that money was distributed – up to Rs 3000 was given, but I believe that the public has taken the right decision. I say with confidence – Long live Maa Mati Manush! Long live Trinamool Congress! Jai Bangla! Bengal will win. Wait till the 4th – everyone will get the public’s answer. Hello! Jai Hind! Jai Bangla!’

After the second and final phase of voting in Bengal on Wednesday (April 29, 2026), all the exit polls came in the evening, in which all except two are expected to form the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. There were only two exit polls in which TMC once again seems to be in power in Bengal. Of these, TMC is estimated to get 178 to 189 seats, while according to the remaining exit polls, BJP can cross the majority mark of 148. These exit polls are a big blow for Mamata Banerjee. Although, it will be clear on May 4 who will capture the power in Bengal, but this is the first statement of Mamata Banerjee after the exit poll, which is being considered very important.

Poll Diary’s survey estimates that BJP may come to power for the first time in West Bengal with 142 to 171 seats. According to this survey, Trinamool Congress may have to be satisfied with 99 to 127.

The exit poll of Matrice said that BJP can form the government in West Bengal with 146 to 161 seats and TMC can get 125 to 140 seats and may be out of power. P-Mark has estimated 150 to 175 seats for BJP while TMC is expected to get 118-138 seats.

People’s Pulse survey says that Trinamool Congress can retain its power by securing 177 to 187 seats. At the same time, BJP is expected to get 95 to 110 seats. Congress is expected to get one to three seats. Opinion polls have given TMC between 195 to 205 seats and the vote share is 49.50%. At the same time, BJP has been given 80-90 seats.
