CM Pramod Sawant could not get the road in front of his office repaired in three years, he should resign – Kejriwal

Goa : The political atmosphere in Goa has become increasingly heated regarding the upcoming District Panchayat elections. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has started a vigorous campaign, calling this election an opportunity for change in the politics of the state. In this series, party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal addressed a big public meeting in Chimbel in support of party candidate Maria Cristalina Anto. Before this, he also did a door-to-door campaign in the area, where he was seen getting a lot of support from the people. Goa in-charge Atishi, state president Amit Palekar and many senior leaders were present on the stage.

Kejriwal’s direct attack on Congress and BJP
In his speech, Arvind Kejriwal took on both Congress and BJP. He said that there is no point in voting for Congress in Goa, because Congress candidates join BJP after winning. He alleged that BJP is confident that people won from Congress will eventually join it, hence it is ignoring the basic needs of the people. Kejriwal said that people are asking for electricity, water, community buildings and sports grounds, but the government is only focusing on big cosmetic projects.

‘Hafta recovery government’ and Arpora fire incident
Kejriwal termed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s government as a “hafta recovery government”. Referring to the Arpora Night Club fire incident, he said that this incident is the result of administrative negligence and corruption. According to him, the night club was running without necessary licenses and permissions and the concerned departments were turning a blind eye. He claimed that police, excise, panchayat and other departments were given lapses, due to which illegal activities were flourishing.

common people suffering from corruption
Kejriwal said that it has become difficult for the common man in Goa to get any work done without bribe. Be it house registration, electricity-water connection or business license – money is demanded everywhere. He alleged that when ministers and MLAs are not honest, the entire system becomes corrupt. For this reason, there is a lot of illegal activities in Goa and honest people have to face problems.

Comparison of unemployment and Punjab model
The issue of youth unemployment was also raised prominently in the meeting. Kejriwal said that educated youth in Goa are roaming unemployed with degrees and it has become almost impossible to get a government job without recommendation or bribe. On the contrary, he gave the example of Punjab, where the Aam Aadmi Party government has given government jobs to thousands of youth on the basis of merit. He told that in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself went from village to village and distributed appointment letters, which instilled confidence among the youth.

Poor roads and infrastructure
Kejriwal took a dig at the government by mentioning the dilapidated roads he saw while reaching Chimbel. He said that the roads right in front of the Chief Minister’s office are full of potholes. According to him, how will a Chief Minister who cannot get the road in front of his office improve the roads in front of people’s houses? He alleged that the BJP government has not given development to Goa, but fear and hooliganism.

Told Aam Aadmi Party as honest alternative
Arvind Kejriwal described Aam Aadmi Party as an honest and public serving party. He said that the party’s MLAs did not become rich after coming to power, but even today live among the common people. He gave the example of how party leaders opened free clinics with their own resources, where people got free treatment and medicines. According to him, this work should have been done by the government, but when the government failed, the Aam Aadmi Party came forward.

Atishi’s attack on Congress and BJP
While addressing the gathering, Goa in-charge Atishi also made a scathing attack on Congress and BJP. He said that the consequences of one wrong vote have to be borne for five years. He gave an example of how MLAs elected from Congress later joined BJP and broke the public trust. Atishi said that BJP has given only corruption, unemployment and broken roads to Goa in 13 years.

appeal for change
At the end of the meeting, both Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi appealed to the people of Goa to vote thoughtfully this time. He said that if Goa wants honest, working and trustworthy politics, then Aam Aadmi Party will have to be given a chance. According to him, this election is not just for the District Panchayat, but is an election that will decide the future direction of Goa.
