CM Rekha Gupta supported ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ in Delhi University, took part in the signature campaign, said – participation of women on decisive positions is necessary.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday participated in the signature campaign being run in support of ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ organized at the Arts Faculty of Delhi University. On this occasion, the Chief Minister candidly said that increasing the participation of women in the crucial positions of administration and policy-making of the country is no longer just a demand but the biggest need of the hour. She stressed that unless women themselves reach important decision-making positions, they will not be able to bring about effective and true change on issues related to society, family and their personal needs. This participation is the real key to empowerment.
The Chief Minister also mentioned the schemes already running in the direction of women empowerment in Delhi. He said that his government’s schemes like ‘Lakhpati Bitiya’ and ‘Anmol’ are the result of this sensitive thinking, which along with strengthening women economically, also provide them social security cover. These schemes show how a visionary approach can bring about a change in the lives of women and make them self-reliant. ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ is a big constitutional step in this series, which will also empower women politically, so that they can directly express their views in policy-making.
CM described ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ as a milestone in the history of the country.
During the programme, posters and slogans with messages like ‘Now is the turn of leadership, women power is the responsibility of worship’ and ‘Strong women, prosperous nation’ were echoed across the campus, clearly underlining the importance of women leadership and equal representation. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed her wholehearted gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this historic occasion. He described the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ as a milestone in the history of the country. According to him, this law will now take the journey that started with campaigns like ‘Beti Bachao’ to ‘Beti Badhao’, where daughters will not only be saved, but will also get full opportunity to move forward and lead in every field.
Decades old demand now becomes law, call to youth to make it a mass movement
The Chief Minister also talked about the background of this Act. He said that the demand for political representation of women is not a new thing, rather it is decades old. Its journey began in 1931, when this issue was discussed seriously for the first time. There were many milestones in this long and difficult journey, many attempts were made, but due to lack of political will and consensus, it could not be realized. Ultimately, in the year 2023, under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ could take the form of a law. This is indeed the result of a long and tireless struggle. Now it is the collective responsibility of all of us citizens and public representatives to ensure effective implementation of this law, so that the society can get its full benefits.
CM Rekha Gupta made a special appeal to the youth present in the program. He called upon them to be an active part of this historic initiative and make this big campaign of women empowerment not just a government effort but a true people’s movement. She explained that when the youth of the society will adopt this campaign and consider it as their responsibility, only then women will be able to participate equally in the decision process. The Chief Minister said with full confidence that only when women are equally involved in decision making at every level, our democracy will become truly strong, represent all sections and be truly empowered.
Students, teachers and citizens participated
A large number of students of Delhi University, teachers and aware citizens of the city participated enthusiastically on this occasion. Everyone expressed their unwavering support towards this historic initiative and appreciated this step towards women empowerment. A special appeal was also made to the citizens present during the programme: Come forward in support of this initiative and ensure your participation by giving a missed call on the designated number 9667173333. This is a simple and effective way through which anyone can become a part of this important national campaign and raise their voice.
After the successful completion of the signature campaign, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took an informal step. She went straight to a simple tea stall located in the university campus. There he sat and drank tea with the girl students and female teachers and talked to them directly. During this intimate and spontaneous conversation, the Chief Minister listened very seriously to everyone’s thoughts, experiences and important suggestions. Through this direct interaction, he not only established a direct and personal relationship with the youth and teachers, but also gave the important message that the simpler, easier and more open the communication between public representatives and the public is, the more effective and people-oriented the policies will become. This shows that real leadership works only by connecting with the ground.
At the end of his address, the Chief Minister once again expressed confidence that the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ will write a new and bright chapter of political representation in the country. He said that this law will not only give rights to women, but it will also establish India as a more empowered, balanced and progressive democracy, where every citizen will get equal opportunities and respect and half of the country’s population will be able to realize their full potential. This is a change that will lay a strong foundation for generations to come.
